International Women's Day & Mother's Day

International Women's Day & Mother's Day

International Women's Day is celebrated on 8 March around the world. It is a focal point in the movement for women's rights.

To make the connection, with Mother's Day we should all be thinking about fairness. So I began to think when did Mother's Day become associated with difficulty when I received the following email;
"We understand that Mother's Day can be a particularly difficult time for some and we don't want to make it any harder than it already is. ....( 2021) Some people may have lost a mother but was there anyone kind enough to look after you that can be appreciated ?
I wondered if men receive the same stigma during Fathers Day? Whose understanding is it that Mother's Day is "particularly difficult"? That needs to be sorted out. What about single parents taking on both roles?

Having Mother's Day associated with a 'particular difficulty' is yet another example of women being written out of the picture.
What is your experience of having a mother or being a mother? Are you kind enough to send someone who is like a mother to you a mothers day card on mothers day?

In the absence of one parent  and if there was a good relationship one parent takes on both roles. Do you know a single parent doing a good job? e.g friend,Widower, neighbour granny, widows dad sisters etc..

Is the word difficulty a fair description for Mother's Day?

Let's celebrate with being more positive. What would you replace the word "difficult" with? I would love to hear your views.
Let's all celebrate mothers and all those who step into this role.
